EYE HEALTH

Regular examinations to ensure healthy eyes

Regular eye examinations are essential for maintaining good eye health and ensuring excellent vision throughout your lifetime. At Barry & Sargent Optometrists we strongly recommend a routine eye examination every two years, or more frequently if you wear contact lenses or have a family history of eye disease.

Our experienced optometrists are able to assess the health of your eyes to identify and diagnose eye conditions. We will provide expert advice, provide treatment or refer you to an eye specialist if necessary. We provide screening for a wide range of problems such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, diabetes and dry eye.

All our optometrists are approved to prescribe medicines for eye conditions. This can include antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatments for conditions such as red eyes, infections, allergies or dry eye. We also can prescribe atropine eye drops for myopia control and eye drops to treat early glaucoma (only with certified glaucoma prescriber).

The risk of developing eye disease increases over the age of 40. Please note for diagnostic reasons we often use dilation drops to enlarge the pupils (the hole that light passes through). This allows us to perform a more thorough examination of the inside of the eye to check for eye disease.
